Jess' New Hair Cut ♡

It's been a while since I got a hair cut (last time was on December 2013) and so my hair had become so messy and shapeless(?) when I don't style it. So I went to the salon! :D
Hello, new hair!

Bye bye, ugly hair (soon)!

Salon of choice:
Sugi Purmawan Salon
Taman Kedoya Baru, Jl. Akasia VIII B X no.12, Jakarta 11520 | Ph. +62 21 581 3501 (closed on Monday)
This salon is my mom's favorite and I first went here at 2006 for my *ahem* rebonding (remember that Meteor Garden's Sancai style?) lol. My 2006 pics are not here but this 2008 pic will do:
…because since that 2006's cut + rebonding, my hair had always been like that haha. Before that, it was always short (shoulder length max) and I always tied it up. So THAT 2006 hair cut + rebonding at Sugi Purmawan Salon was the turning point for the tomboy me for becoming the girly me lolol. Hair style really affects your personality, y'know? ^^v

After that, I decided to color my hair, grow my bangs, then it becomes like my today's hair. I knowwwww right? My hairstyle choices are very boring. ^^;;; T_T

Okay then, let's get started!
After getting my hair washed. Aunty y u look annoyed.

Still after the hair wash. Aunty no longer annoyed.

One of many reasons I like going to this home-based salon was that Sugi provided so many (and up-to-date) Japanese Hairstyle Magazines and he himself is an expert in Japanese haircut style. I mean he knows how to layer and all that stuff. Nowadays, though, he prefers using his iPad and a pretty familiar website called Google to let us customers browse and browse our desired look lol. "Magazines was a waste of money," he said, "and hairstyle trends change rapidly. This is a much better way!" lol couldn't agree more. And that lontong up there? Best.

Chop chop.
I told Sugi I didn't want to cut my hair short, "I want to keep it long, but layered for more volume." I also asked him to cut my bangs slightly.

And so he did.
Unlike those sok ide (know-it-all) hairstylists who always end up cutting your hair shorter than you asked for or making your hair look hideous because, "I think this look will suit you best. Trust me!", he always does what he's asked for, or if he thinks some look will suit you better, he will ask for your permission first, because it's your hair, afterall.

After final hair wash. Aunty no longer there.

Getting my hair styled by Mr. Sugi himself!

…aaand DONE!

Final Look
I LOVE IT!

4 Ways to Wear a Bow in Your Hair

4 Ways to Wear a Bow in Your Hair
Love love love how a single ribbon / bow could easily revamp your girly look! I used bow hair clips for this tutorial. You can also replace them with tied-on ribbons if you want to. ^^

1. Take your front hair to the side (left or right, whichever side you prefer), but don't pull it too tightly, we want to let it loose to create a bit of volumized look. Then tie it up or clip it with a bobby pin (mine was pretty thick, so I tied it up) and clip in the bow.
P.S. If your front hair is not long enough (you have bangs instead) you can use the side of your hair to create this look, then blow dry your bangs.

2. Take all your hair to the side of the head, bring it to the front (you can choose to cover your ear / not. I chose to cover it hehe), braid it into this simple braid, then clip in the bow. Style the leftover hair on the other side whichever way you want. I chose to clip on some of my too-long bangs to the side with a bobby pin, and let the rest fall down like this.
P.S. If your hair is not long enough, you can opt for a side ponytail instead of a side braid.

3. Take some of the front section of your hair, pulling it backward loosely (again, we want it to appear a bit volumized). Tie it with a hair tie and clip in the bow.
P.S. If the bow won't 'stand up' (like mine did), you need to clip on some bobby pins below the bow to 'tuck' it up.

4. Take all your hair up, make a messy hair bun, then clip in the bow right on top of the bun.
P.S. You can brush it all up (including the front section / the bangs), or leave it side parted like mine. Both ways are cute to me! ^^

Odango Hairstyle

What I Wore: Blue Polka Dot Tube Top from Haji Lane, Singapore | GOWIGASA Brick Red A-Line Candy Skirt | Trench Coat from Japan | White Olga Deandri Shoes | Forever21 Gold Chain Necklace

Hi! This is one of the outfits I wore for my Singapore trip last month and back when my hair was still brown (with ugly black roots, wtf). I was trying out this cute hairstyle called Odango (お団子); it is a reference to a Japanese dumpling, and is used to describe hairstyles in which the woman's hair is bound in spherical or nearly-spherical buns on her head. (credit: Wikimoon)

This is Dango, a Japanese dumpling made from mochiko (rice flour), related to mochi. (credit: Wikipedia)
To get this hairstyle, you just need to first create two pigtails using two hair ties (or rubber band) and then twist them and tie them into knots using another two hair ties. It's so simple, go try it yourself! :D

Elle and Jess Back to Black

So..? What do you think? ^^

Okay, first of all, yes, those are wigs. Few days ago, when we posted our pictures wearing them for the first time (see it here and here), some people thought they're for real lol. Well, they do look and feel pretty real to us, too. AND as you might know already that changing your hairstyle could really change the way you look, our dear brother was dead stunned when he saw Elle walking out of the elevator. Jess' bf didn't even dare to greet her when he picked her up at our apartment lobby. Both of them thought they saw someone who look completely similar with us, only with different hair lololol.

Well to be honest, it felt like a looooong time since the first time we coloured our hair (circa 2011), so maybe because of that, when @nonataliashop offered to sponsor us, we both picked these black ones in a blink, without even telling each other beforehand! Talk about telepathy.

Both our wigs have the same color: Jet Black. Even our natural hair color is not as black as this lol. Maybe because we did a lot of outdoor sports back then.. But THIS jet black color totally gave us a shock when we first tried it on. "So this is how we'd look like with @bellevalencia's* hair..." we thought.
*our cousin whom shiny-healthy-always-perfect hair should really be insured

We think black gives you this cool-mysterious-girl look, which is why we paired it with these outfits. But you know what, after this sudden Back to Black sessioneven though some people convincingly said that we look better in black, we actually got ourselves *even* reassured that we look better in our colored hair.

Ah well, it's all simply a matter of taste, right? ;)
